St Stephen’s College Preparatory School implemented ‘One student - One instrument’ programme about 30 years ago. The School Orchestra was established in 1986, which made St Stephen’s the avant-garde of primary schools in this area in Hong Kong. In the past years, the Orchestra has achieved very outstanding results in the inter-school competitions in Hong Kong: It was the champion and gold prize winner in the Primary School Symphony Orchestra Competition in Hong Kong Schools Music Festival and Hong Kong Youth Music Interfl ows respectively. In 2014, the Orchestra hosted a 2-hour open-to-public concert at Vienna Musikverein. The Orchestra was also the fi rst Hong Kong Primary School Orchestra being hosted by Musikverein to present a full-programme concert there. In 2017, the Orchestra hosted another full-programme open-to-public concert at Sydney Conservatorium of Music.
Daniel is current conductor of the St Stephen’s College Preparatory School Orchestra (SSCPS). A seasoned music educator and accomplished violinist, Daniel graduated from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, double major in violin performance and composition. He further obtained his master’s in music at Indiana University Bloomington. Prior to joining the SSCPS, he taught composition in his alma mater and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts. At SSCPS, he leads the school’s instrumental training programme which covers private instrumental tutoring, ensemble coaching and orchestral training. Under his leadership, SSCPS orchestra and its members frequently appear in Hong Kong’s and international events; including a performance at the Wiener Musikverein in 2014 and a concert at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music in 2017. Aside from school teaching, Daniel continues to perform and write music with frequent appearances in Hong Kong’s music scene. His recent commissioned works include two anthems for Evangel Seminary at its Commencement Exercises in 2017 and 2018.Back to the list of ensembles
