The choir was founded in 1828 as an optional activity for students. Prof. Jasmina Neskovic, who has passed on all her love of music and choral singing to her students, has been the conductor of this choir since 1983, which counts 80 singers at the present moment. Due to all the competitions attended, we acquired the place among thousand best world’s choirs on the international choral association list of MUSICA MUNDI. Because of the increment to traditional choral music and high level of interpretation, the choir and the conductor have been awarded many prizes and acknowledgments, both at national and international competitions. Among the prizes, the following can be accentuated: silver medal at international choral festival, organized by MUSICA MUNDI in Budapest, 2001; silver medal at the 7th international choral festival in Riva del Garde (Italy), 2002; golden medal at May Festival of Music in Bijeljina (Bosnia and Herzegovina) 2002; golden medal at the Third choral festival and competiton „Johannes Brahms“ in Wernigerode (Germany).
Jovan Travica, born in 1984. In year 1999 he enrolled at Music High School ,,Petar Krancevic’’ in Sremska Mitrovica from which he graduated in 2003 as the best student of the year. That same year he enrolled at Music Academy in Novi Sad. His work as a conductor began in 2006. with AKUD ,,Sonja Marinkovic’’ string orchestra with which he won silver and golden diploma as well as several special prizes on String Orchestra Festival in Serbia. He graduated from the university in 2008. and that same year he began working in Gimnazija ,,Jovan Jovanovic Zmaj’’ as a music professor. In addition to being choir conductor he established a school string orchestra. He finished his Master studies in Choral Conducting at Music Academy of Novi Sad with maximum average grade, 10.Back to the list of ensembles
