The Ekurhuleni Childrens‘ Choir was established in February 2005 by Christine and Neels Dercksen. Students are selected from a variety of ethnic, social, economic and cultural backgrounds with ages ranging from 9 – 17 years. The choir comprises 35 children representing 21 schools from the Ekurhuleni Metro, Gauteng, South Africa. A large percentage of the choir represents previously disadvantaged communities. The choir serves the broader community in church performances, concerts and choir festival.
Christine Dercksen studied at the Natal Educational Department where she specialised in music. Thereafter she furthered her studies at the University of Stellenbosch. She has taken an active part in the South African Choir scene as conductor of children’s choirs. Throughout the years these choirs have received various awards nationally and internationally.Back to the list of ensembles
